“SHORT VERSION: I literally cant say enough good things about Zac at Strauss Custom! I was continually overly impressed with him and his team from start to finish, and recommend them with absolute enthusiasm. He will now always be the first person I call for future home projects.

LONG VERSION: My introduction was when I had a sprinkler pipe burst under my deck and needed someone very quickly to disassemble a portion of the deck to get access to the water line for repair. Zac was there the next morning and quickly worked to help solve that problem before I had to leave town the next day. Unfortunately, after some deck boards were pulled up, it was obvious that the framing was shot, because whoever originally built it didnt use treated wood, which is crazy. Rather than leaving me to deal with it myself, Zac offered various solutions and options. Ultimately I decided it was better to just demolish everything and pretty much start from scratch, which was no small task for this deck. It was about 600 sq. ft., with stairs on three sides and large storage benches, all on a very downward sloping yard. Throughout this process, as is somewhat expected, more surprises came up – everything from bad footings, poor water drainage, and deteriorating Trex boards. As the circumstances got more complicated, Zac was never deterred or frustrated, and always educated me and offered multiple options for solutions. He even became heavily involved in helping me navigate filing a warranty claim for the Trex materials, which saved me thousands upon thousands of dollars, even though that ultimately put less money in his pocket.

That is one of the many examples of the honesty and integrity that comes along with Strauss Custom. Zac was incredibly patient, helpful, and transparent about every aspect of this entire project. His communication was impressively professional and timely, which is something Ive rarely experienced with other contractors.This is especially true about the design of the new build. I was feeling guilty about how many times I asked him to tweak this or change that, however, he seemed happy to make whatever adjustments I asked about. He was genuinely more concerned about me being happy with the finished project than he was about anything else. Along these lines, I have never seen a contractor approach a project with the level of precision and detail that Zac and his team did. He was meticulous in every measurement and every cut, though this didnt seem to slow him down at all. Hes just that good, which isnt that surprising given that his previous training and background is in engineering. One example of many is that he used a special sealant every time he cut a pressure-treated board, in order to preserve the integrity of the product. I have NEVER seen or even heard of that being done before, though technically it is the manufacturers recommendation. When I commented on these types of observations, Zacs simple response was that he was building this deck for me like he would build it for himself at his own home, which is that there should be no reason it doesnt last for 30+ years. That really resonated with me and I sincerely appreciated this outlook on how he approaches his work. One would think that for a contractor that is this good, the cost would be exorbitant. However, Strauss Customs prices are very fair and reasonable, even amongst competitors, who I guarantee dont do as thorough of a job. I truly do not believe that you can go wrong with Zac and the others that he entrusts to ensure the quality of workmanship, professionalism, customer service, and integrity that is synonymous with the name and brand of Strauss Custom. I feel very fortunate to have kind of stumbled upon working with them, especially for such a big project. And now, Zac will always be the first person I call for future home construction needs.”
